We can but tell Hong Kong that we have not been able to trace any papers here which indicate the reason for the bill of $15,119 against Hong Kong and that, if it is desired to pursue this matter, fuller information must be supplied. don't think at this stage we should express a view as to whether or not this charge should be accepted by Hong Kong as one of the outstanding war liabilities towards meeting which H. M. G. 's £1,000,000 grant was made. We really don't know enough about it.

2. I note there is one other claim (whether Category B or C is not clear, but it is not A) which is mentioned once, only to disappear again. This is the claim on account of orders placed by D.A.D.O. S. Hong Kong in 1941 which is referred to in paragraph 2 of (14) on the 1947 file. It is there stated that no reply had been received from local Military H. Q. thou the representation made by the Hong Kong Government, it being understood that the matter had been submitted to the War Office. We have heard no more of this. If Hong Kong accepts our proposed reply about Category B and C claims, presumably we never shall hear any more about it. I mention it only for the sake of completeness.
